A former NBA player for the Denver Nuggets and his wife are headed for divorce court.
Eric Williams played for Denver's professional basketball team between 1997 and 1999. He also played for the Boston Celtics, although he was never what you would call a star player for either team. He and his wife recently embarked on unlikely second careers as reality TV stars thanks to the VH1 show "Basketball Wives."
But now, Jennifer Williams has filed divorce, which of course puts their roles in the show in jeopardy because a show about women who are married to NBA stars is not likely to keep characters on if they are no longer married to one another.
Divorce is not always the contentious process we see depicted in movies and TV, but it does have lasting and serious impacts on soon-to-be-ex husbands and wives. Sometimes, those effects cannot be guessed when divorce proceedings start. Here, for instance, when they began their divorce proceedings, the Williams probably did not know "Basketball Wives" would be a hit and that their separation might mean their exit from the show.
Now, the position that got Eric Williams more visibility than his NBA career ever did might be taken away as a result of his divorce.
If you are contemplating divorce, speaking with an experienced family law attorney might reveal some things you ought to think about, but simply did not know you should. These attorneys have worked with other couples in the past, so they have experience and know what difficulties separating couples encounter. This kind of advice can give you a sense of the road ahead and enable you to make better plans for the future.
