Colorado is full of skiing enthusiasts, making a recent celebrity divorce a matter of particular interest in these parts. Olympic skiing champion Lindsey Vonn and her husband Thomas Vonn announced this week that they have filed for divorce. It's like the sweethearts of the slopes are breaking up.

Lindsey has won various athletic honors, including three World Cup titles, 42 World Cup wins and more. But even for an incredible, dedicated athlete, it seems as though marriage got to be too difficult. The Vonns have been married for just over four years, working together to help Lindsey achieve her many skiing accomplishments.

It is still early in this high-profile divorce, when the mere announcement is enough news to create public fodder for a few days. What will be interesting to learn about in the future is how this couple will split their property.

It hasn't been disclosed whether the Vonns created a prenuptial agreement. Both had some skiing successes before marrying in 2007. Whatever each individual had accumulated before the marriage would generally not be considered marital property.

But because Thomas was both Lindsey's husband and coach during their marriage, determining how much of the earnings due to Lindsey's Olympic wins will go to each could be a complicated task. Lindsey also makes money off of endorsements, proving that she could very well be the highest earner in the marriage. Her husband's support likely helped her in that accomplishment, which is something that is considered relevant in an equitable distribution state like Colorado.

We will follow this matter and post an update with new developments.
