It's Valentine's Day, and that likely either means that you are having a great day or you are waiting for the day to be over with. While many couples see this day as a way to remember and rekindle the romance that led to their marriage, other couples or partners apparently see it differently.

Did you know that February is the month wherein the most divorces take place? The Huffington Post reports on this surprising divorce trend but doesn't give many concrete, studied reasons why calling it quits in the second month of the year is so common.

One theory why divorce in February is popular is that the major holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's are all behind us. Some partners don't like the idea of going through the holidays alone or adding stress to the otherwise joyful time of year.

Another theory is also related to holidays but Valentine's Day in particular. It's the holiday of romance, when wooing or proving one's devotion to his partner is definitely expected. When the flame isn't or just can't be rekindled during this holiday, many couples or individual partners will see that as the last straw and file for divorce.

Motivations for divorce vary from person to person and couple to couple. But if the data is true, it looks like motivations build up and lead to finality in February. It might seem like a depressing thought for a marriage's end to be inspired by Valentine's Day. You could look at the positive, however. Maybe a divorce will mark the opening of a door to better Valentine's Days in one's future.

Can you think of other reasons why divorce might be common this month? Have you seen this trend or the above-mentioned theories play out in real life?
